Book 1:1 Coaching
I offer 1:1 transformational coaching, online or in-person, for doctors, and anyone in an emotionally demanding role. I will help you to clarify your thoughts and draw your own conclusions, so you can start to take the steps that will carry you forward.
What is coaching?
Coaching provides a space to explore your own ideas, needs, goals and decisions. I love the power of coaching even when you aren’t even quite sure WHAT you need it for.
It can help you to:
-
Find clarity and direction
-
Reduce overwhelm & stress
-
Build self-confidence and support your inner leader
I coach in a flexible style, but the core principle is that you get to work through whatever you bring to the space with an experienced guide and companion, but avoiding unsolicited external influence.
There are many different models and styles, but the overarching premise of coaching is that by asking the right questions, YOU are most likely to find the answers to YOUR unique needs.
Coaching with About Wellbeing
Different people will need or suit different coaches. Sometimes the only way to know is to try.
Coaching provides a neutral space so a coach’s professional background shouldn’t influence the techniques which might help you as the coachee.
However, if a coach has experiences or shares a career background which reflects your own this can improve empathy and reduce any potential sense of feeling exposed or judged.
For this reason most of my coaching is done with Doctors – but anyone is welcome!
I have a diploma in Transformational Coaching, experience of running retreats and wellbeing workshops and over 20 years as a Paediatrician behind me.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to some most frequently asked questions.
If there is anything else that you’d like to ask, that I haven’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.
How long does coaching take?
It depends on your goals and needs. Some clients benefit from a few targeted sessions, while others prefer ongoing support. To access discounted rates, a minimum commitment of six sessions is required.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching focuses on professional and personal growth, helping you move forward and reach specific goals. It’s future-focused and, although it may suit you to reference your personal story and context this would be to enable and empower you rather than explore past trauma, diagnose or “treat” anything per se.
Do you have experience working with doctors/healthcare professionals?
Yes, I specialise in working with professionals in emotionally demanding roles, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. I worked as a doctor for over 20 years, and understand the pressures and challenging aspects of the profession. All of our About Wellbeing coaches have a background of medical training.
What happens in a coaching session?
Sessions are structured but flexible. Essentially it is a form of guided conversation. You get to speak and/ or think as much as it suits you to do. The coach is there to listen actively, allowing you space to explore challenges, clarify goals, and develop practical strategies. Sessions are confidential, supportive, and focused on what you need most. Pure coaching is aimed at helping you find your own solutions.
Can coaching help with burnout and stress?
Yes, coaching can help you identify stressors, develop strategies for resilience, and create a healthier work-life balance without compromising your professional success.
How much does coaching cost?
Prices: £90 per hour long session. Course of 6 sessions £450 (Online via Teams or Zoom, or in person in the Wiltshire area) NB. All attendees of a Woodlines retreat or workshop can access up to 3 sessions at £75/hour
Is coaching confidential?
Absolutely. Everything discussed remains confidential, within professional ethical and legal guidelines.
How do I know if coaching is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or want to make a change but aren’t sure how, coaching could be beneficial. A free discovery call can help determine if it’s the right fit for you.

Dr Jo Hacking
Transformational Coach
Founder & Director of About Wellbeing
Hello! I am a certified Transformational Coach and founder of About Wellbeing. I wear several “work hats”: coach, retreat leader and workshop facilitator/ adult trainer and also work part time as a Wellbeing Project Officer for the WIltshire Wildlife Trust.
I was a Doctor for almost 25 years, with 10 years as an NHS Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. I have a lived experience of recovery from burnout (with associated PTSD and depression) and learnt the power of accepting help, honest self-awareness and compassionate self-care. My journey informs much of what I do now, and has heightened my awareness of the importance of all aspects of our existence (connection with self, others, environment, creativity and our relationship with Nature) for our wellbeing as a whole human.
I am an advocate of creating cultural change and increasing opportunities to support the benefits of nature connection for wellbeing. This has now become a full time occupation, such that I finally stepped away from clinical medicine in 2023.
I live in Wiltshire with my husband, three children and various other animals.
